Today is Cinco de Mayo, a holiday that commemorates the defeat of a French army by an underdog Mexican force at Puebla, Mexico, in 1862; not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day which is celebrated on September 16. In the U.S., the holiday has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture. And one way of celebrating for a baseball player is to hit a home run. Mike Schmidt leads all major-leaguers having hit seven round-trippers on the day. Among active players, Nolan Arenado, Miguel Cabrera, Curtis Granderson, Matt Holliday, Adam Lind, Brandon Phillips, Albert Pujols, Troy Tulowitzki, and Jayson Werth have all hit three homers on the holiday.
