Jose Bautista, through Thursday, led all batters in the bigs with the most pitches seen per plate appearance at 4.58, over a half pitch more than the major-league average of 3.87. The Toronto Blue Jays right fielder also led the majors in total pitches seen with 705. So far, that patience at the plate hasn’t paid off for Bautista who was batting .173 with only two homers and nine RBIs. Brandon Phillips of the Atlanta Braves had seen the fewest pitches per plate appearance at 3.04. The 14 batters who have perused the most pitches per PA this season are (through Thursday):
