Monday’s eighth inning rumble between slugger Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and reliever Hunter Strickland of the San Francisco Giants led to ejections and suspensions for both players. Strickland hit Harper with a pitch allegedly as retaliation for two home runs the outfielder hit off him in a 2014 National League Division Series. It was Harper’s ninth career ejection and Strickland’s first. Harper has the second highest number of ejections for a major-leaguer under age 25 trailing only New York Giants second baseman Larry Doyle who was tossed 15 times. Doyle compiled his record number of ejections from 1907 through 1912. Before Monday’s heave-ho, the 24-year-old Harper (who will turn 25 on October 16) was tied with Roger Bresnahan and Jimmy Sheckard with eight apiece.
