NINE TO KNOW

April 18, 2009 – Here are nine things you need to know in order to talk baseball today.

1. Comebacks abound in baseball yesterday. Comeback #1 @ Fenway – Brad Penny lets the Orioles jump to a 7-0 lead. The Red Sox win 10-8.

2. Comeback #2 @ Citizen’s Bank – The Padres spot the Phillies a 7-1 lead, San Diego wins, 8-7.

3. Comeback #3 in Minnesota – The Angels have a 9-4 lead going to the bottom of 8th, Jason Kubel ends his cycle with a slam and the Twins win, 11-9.

4. Comeback #4 in Tampa – The White Sox take a 5-1 lead over the Rays, it means nothing as Ben Zobrist hits a granny and Tampa wins 6-5.

5. Comeback #5 in Canada – Toronto leads 5-1, Oakland ignores it and wins 8-5.

6. Comeback #6 in La La Land – The Rockies lead 3-0 going into the 7th, Dodgers score four in the bottom of the inning and win, 7-4.

7. Comeback #7 from being released – Gary Sheffield pinch-hits the 500th homer of his career. His homer against the Brewers (the team he hit his first homer for 20 years ago) helps the Mets to a 5-4 comeback win (they were losing 4-3).

8. Comeback #8 from a 101-loss season – The Mariners win again after spotting the Tigers a 3-0 lead, they improve to 8-3 after a 6-3 victory.

9. Comeback #9 in Washington – The Nationals (1-8) come back to Earth after winning a game and the Marlins improve to 9-1 after their 3-2 10-inning win over the Nats.
