Short hops

From the Bill Chuck files: “Justin Masterson is now 1-9 as a starter since being acquired by the Indians from the Red Sox last season. Lifetime, he’s 1-11 on the road.’’ Also, “Robinson Cano has many potential MVP characteristics, but base stealing isn’t one of them. Including being caught by Victor Martinez this season, he’s 18 for 40 lifetime in steal attempts.’’ And lastly, “This past week, Hanshin Tigers outfielder Tomoaki Kanemoto had his Japanese baseball record streak of playing in consecutive games without missing an inning stopped at 1,492, though he extended his overall streak of consecutive games to 1,638. Cal Ripken Jr. holds the major league record for most consecutive games played with 2,632 and he played 903 consecutive games without missing an inning.’’
