Justin Verlander’s April woes

There are few pitchers in baseball as good as Justin Verlander of the Tigers.

I don’t think there is an argument there.

Lifetime, Verlander is 83-52 with a 3.89 ERA. Over the last two seasons, Verlander is 37-18 with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.169 WHIP.

But think how awesome his numbers would be if he got off to a good start. Take a look at his April numbers:

Year W L W-L% ERA G CG IP H R ER HR BB SO HBP WHIP SO/9 SO/BB
2006 3 2 .600 3.52 5 0 30.2 24 13 12 4 10 21 1 1.109 6.2 2.10
2007 1 1 .500 2.79 5 0 29.0 22 12 9 2 14 21 2 1.241 6.5 1.50
2008 1 4 .200 6.50 6 0 36.0 35 31 26 5 18 20 6 1.472 5.0 1.11
2009 1 2 .333 6.75 5 0 28.0 34 24 21 3 9 34 1 1.536 10.9 3.78
2010 1 2 .333 5.53 5 0 27.2 28 18 17 3 12 26 0 1.446 8.5 2.17
Career Total 7 11 .389 5.06 26 0 151.1 143 98 85 17 63 122 10 1.361 7.3 1.94

If Verlander starts strong this season, you may be looking at the AL Cy Young for 2011.
