Gio Gonzalez too good

Sometimes you need to pitch really well to win, sometimes just okay is all you need.

Last night, Gio Gonzalez pitched unnecessarily great as the A’s clobbered the Angels, 14-0. Gonzalez (5-2) struck out seven and allowed only a line-drive single to Howie Kendrick in the 5th. He walked just one and struck out seven in seven innings.

Tyler Chatwood, in the worst start of his rookie career, allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks in 2.1 innings.

Coco Crisp and Mark Ellis each had three hits.

Oakland had season highs in runs scored and hits (15) to move into a tie with Texas for first place in the AL West.
