The saddest team in the West

You know the game you play when you get a fortune cookie and after reading your fortune you add the phrase “in bed?” Watching the Giants game yesterday it felt like after every situation the announcing team was adding “if only Posey was here.”

It was funereal yesterday as the Giants realized that their star, Buster Posey, is gone for the season. The Giants looked lifeless as Anibal Sanchez threw a five-hit complete game to lead the Marlins to a 1-0 victory and a three-game sweep. Sanchez (4-1) struck out eight and walked two for his fifth career complete game and second this season.

Ryan Vogelsong (3-1) was the hard luck loser allowing the one run on eight hits in eight innings.

If only Posey was here…

Aubrey Huff replaced Posey in the cleanup spot and went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts, a double play and a groundout with the tying run at second in the ninth. In the 1st, the Giants had runners on first and second with one out but Huff grounded into a double play to end the inning.

In the 2nd, Posey’s replacement, Eli Whiteside grounded out with a runner on second. Whiteside was 0-for-2

An MRI exam on Posey showed he fractured a bone his lower left leg and had three torn ligaments on both sides of his left ankle, and will soon undergo surgery.
