For those of you who read Nick Cafardo’s Baseball Notes in the Boston Globe, you might recall this past Sunday I wrote, “Playing for Reno, Arizona’s Triple A franchise, Wily Mo Pena is hitting .356 with 21 homers and 62 RBIs in 59 games.’’
Well apparently the Diamondbacks were reading Nick, because today they brought up the “outfielder” who was hitting .363 and led the Pacific Coast League in homers.
Over parts of seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox and Nationals, Pena has hit .253 with a .447 slugging percentage and 77 homers. Like David Ortiz, Pena’s strength is as a DH, not a fielder.
Wily Mo Update:
Wily Mo hit a towering homer in last night D-backs 7-2 win over Kansas City. He also struck out two Mo times.
