Angels get closer as Red Sox move into first

Jered Weaver pitched seven innings of four-hit ball to help lead the Angels’ to their sixth straight victory, 8-0 over the Chicago White Sox. Combined with the Red Sox 13-2 thrashing of the Rangers, the Angels moved to just 2.5 back of Texas in the AL West. With the Yankees losing again to the A’s, 6-4 in 10-innings, the Red Sox moved back into first place in the AL East.

Weaver is 15-6 with a 2.03 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP on the season.

The Angels have today off before heading to Arlington to face the Rangers.

Carl Crawford, Jacoby Ellsbury and Adrian Gonzalez hit two-run homers in consecutive innings for Boston, which moved one game ahead of New York.
