Men in Black…and White

This was not the Will Smith who pitched for the Royals

Perhaps it was the ultimate way to hype the opening of Men in Black 3, but the Kansas City Royals last night started Will Smith (0-1), a 22-year-old rookie making his MLB debut against the Yankees. Will barely acted like a pitcher as he allowed five runs on six hits in 3.1 innings as the Yankees won, 8-3. The winning pitcher was Andy Pettitte who made his made his MLB debut in 1995 when Smith was 5 years and 10 months old. Pettitte lifetime against the Royals is 14-3 but more incredibly hasn’t lost to them since August 18, 1999 when he allowed one run (unearned) in eight innings and the Royals eventually won 3-0.

It was as different as black and white in Miami as Troy Tulowitzki homered and drove in four as he Rockies snapped a six-game losing streak, 8-4. Alex White (1-3) was the winning pitcher.
