The Pirates season can’t end soon enough

While teams are battling to hold on or reach the postseason, one big question continues to haunt: Can the Pittsburgh Pirates reach the end of the season before they are overtaken by the .500 mark?

Yesterday, the Pirates had a 6-1 lead before the Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer in the 5th inning, then hit his first career grand slam in the 6th to lead Cubs to a football-like 13-9 win. For Rizzo, it was his first muti-homer game, his first six-RBI game, and his first curtain call for the Cubs (!) who have taken five of the last six against Pittsburgh.

The Pirates have lost 8-of-10, 14-of-20, and 21-of-30.

On August 8, the Pirates were 63-47 (.573). Since that date, they are 10-25 (.286), the worst record in the NL, only the Indians 10-26 (.278) have a worse record.
