Will the Upton Abbey Soap Opera End in Atlanta?

upton-manor-downton-abbey1The drama of this Hot Stove season has been whether the Arizona Diamondbacks trade their young star Justin Upton.

The latest twist in the Julian Fellowes-like plot is that Arizona is now in discussion with the Atlanta Braves in a deal that would unite Upton with his three-years older brother, B.J. Upton, who signed as a free agent with the Braves earlier in this offseason series.

In an interesting twist to this thriller, the D-backs are also teasing the possibility of trading Jason Kubel to Baltimore.

This made-for-MLB TV event may come to an end shortly as Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers is going on vacation to Africa on Friday. But sources have indicated to Ken Rosenthal (the Laura Linney-like narrator of this masterpiece) that Towers is not treating the start of his trip as a deadline.

Like all good soap operas, there is another suitor as the Texas Rangers have sought Justin but rejected surrendering one of their young  shortstops, Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar.

And let us not forget, it was Upton himself who spurned the Mariners after the Diamondbacks agreed to a proposed deal with Seattle earlier this month, with the Mariners being one of the four teams on Upton’s just-not-that-into you list.

As we wait, no one appears to be more excited than bro B.J. who tweeted yesterday, “Wow these (at)JUS10UP10 rumors have me excited. Please don’t tease me like this… Would be a dream come true if it happens.”

Stay tuned for more.

And we’re back
