Nine to Know – From the Bill Chuck Files: Rollins, Avila, Porcello, Blevins, Cano, and more

  1. Future HOF-er Jimmy Rollins is the only shortstop in baseball history with 800+ RBI, 400+ steals, and 175+ homers.
  2. Tigers backstop Alex Avila is 1-for-15 (.067) against lefties.
  3. The Brewers have been caught stealing 12 times this season which is a lot considering the Cardinals have only stolen 11 bases, which is a little.
  4. In 29 innings this season, A’s hurler Brett Anderson has an outstanding ground ball rate of 60.8%. So why does he have an ERA of 6.21? It might have something do with the 15 walks he’s issued already.
  5. Then again Anderson’s 4.66 walks per nine innings isn’t the worst amongst starters. That honor goes to the DL-ed Bucs pitcher James McDonald who has a 6.07 with 20 walks in 29.2 innings.
  6. Need a reason why the bullpen is so important for the Tigers? Rick Porcello has started 125 games and teammate Max Scherzer has started 139 and neither has a complete game, the most among active pitchers.
  7. A’s reliever Jerry Blevins has thrown 18.1 IP this season, he has whiffed 19 and walked just one.
  8. Robinson Cano is now 20th on the Yankees all-time hit list with 1501. Up next, is Frank Crosetti with 1541.
  9. Cano is also now 17th on the Yankees all-time home run list with 186, passing Paul O’Neill who had 185. Up next, is Tino Martinez with 192.
