PORCELLO HEADING TO MOST RED SOX LOSSES IN THE LAST 50 YEARS
“Anomaly,” thy name is 2016 Rick Porcello.
Rick Porcello has been a steady back-end of the rotation pitcher since 2009. His lifetime record of 111-96, 1.312 WHIP, and 4.23 ERA speaks volumes.
Last season, everything went Rick’s way going 22-4 and winning the Cy Young Award. But baseball is often a great equalizer and Porcello this season is 4-14, the fifth double-digit loss season of his career. With probably at least 10 starts remaining, Porcello is on his way to topping his 15 loss total from 2015, his first season with Boston, and topping his career high in gopher pitches (he has 25 now and he had 25 in 2015 as well).
The Sox, have presumptive 2017 AL CYA winner Chris Sale pitching like the ace he is, former CYA winner David Price on the DL with a bad arm and a big mouth, and Porcello…and last night they dropped out of first place in the AL East.
It should be an interesting August and September.
Over the last 50 seasons, the Red Sox have had 16 pitchers lose at least 14 games
Porcello is now on the list twice joining Ray Culp.
