The Bill Chuck Files of August 25, 2019

Each Sunday, in remembrance of my friend Nick Cafardo, I post “the Bill Chuck Files” (named by Nick in his Sunday Baseball Notes column)

20 FROM THE FILES

  9. Earlier this week the Padres hit into four double plays against the Mets; the most in a nine-inning this season were the five DPS the Marlins hit into against the Phillies in June.
  10. Why the 1-1 pitch is so important – On 2-1 pitches, Juan Soto is 14-19, an amazing .737. On 1-2 pitches, Juan Soto is 33-55, a pedestrian .236.
  11. D.J. LeMahieu leads the majors with 109 singles.
  12. Speaking of singles – In 2015, 69 players had 100+ singles; in 2016, 65 players had 100+ singles; in 2017, 47 players had 100+ singles; in 2018, 40 players had 100+ singles; and thus far this season, five players have 100+ singles.
  13. Zero – Adam Eaton leads the majors with 57 walks, the most of any player without an intentional pass.
  14. The Indians and the White Sox lead the majors with five complete games and the Tribe lead the majors with four complete game shutouts. In 2011, Cliff Lee (whose birthday is August 30) threw six shutouts.
