Each Sunday, in remembrance of my friend Nick Cafardo, I post “the Bill Chuck Files” (named by Nick in his Sunday Baseball Notes column)
Homers by relievers (are not a good thing)
Major league leaders in homers allowed for relievers
Okay, the Giants are not going to make the postseason, but they sure are good in one run games
Best records in one-run games since 2010 – Sept 8
One more Giants note of interest:
Bruce Bochy holds the record for most wins by a visiting manager (107) at Dodger Stadium. As he ends his magerial career (at least for now), Bochy needs five wins to reach 2,000.
Another managerial note…
Between the Red Sox and Indians, future Hall of Famer Terry Francona now has 15 consecutive winning seasons.

Nine to Know: Most team homers in a season
The Twins have set a new MLB record. The Yankees are two homers short of tying the old record which they set last season. The Dodgers have set a new NL record
251 players have hit at least 10 homers this season, the most in baseball history
106 players have hit at least 20 homers this season, the third-most in baseball history. The record is 117 in 2017 followed by 111 in 2016. This record is sure to be smashed in the coming days since there are 136 players with 17 to 19 homers which is also currently a record for the most in a season.
There have been 21 three-homer games this season (the record is 22 in 2001)
- Nelson Cruz of the Twins is the only player with two 3-HR games this season.
- The Twins are the only team with three games this season (Max Kepler had the other)
- The Dodgers, Cardinals, and Reds each have had two
